What Is 1JL0?
1JL0 is a nickel-iron soft magnetic alloy specially designed for cryogenic environments (liquid nitrogen 77K / liquid helium 4K). It belongs to the permalloy family—but with one critical difference from standard grades:
- Standard permalloys (1J50 / 1J79 / 1J85) have excellent permeability at room temperature, but their permeability degrades sharply at cryogenic temperatures, weakening magnetic shielding.
- 1JL0 maintains excellent soft magnetic performance at liquid-nitrogen temperature, with almost no permeability loss.
That makes 1JL0 the go-to material for magnetic shielding in cryogenic and superconducting applications.

1JL0 delivers roughly 1–2 orders of magnitude higher permeability at liquid-nitrogen temperature than imported Cryoperm 10—with the added benefit of domestic, flexible supply.
Key Applications
1JL0 serves applications demanding extremely low magnetic field environments at cryogenic temperatures:
1. Superconducting Cavities and Cryogenic Accelerator Systems
Used for cryogenic magnetic shielding in large-scale research facilities, such as synchrotron radiation sources and free-electron lasers. The material must meet stringent requirements for low-temperature magnetic permeability, dimensional stability, welding, and assembly performance.
2. Cryogenic Precision Magnetic Measurements and Scientific Instrumentation
Used in cryogenic experimental systems, magnetic sensors, and precision measurement equipment, where a low-background magnetic field environment and stable magnetic shielding performance are required.
3. Precision Electronics and Room-Temperature Magnetic Shielding
High-permeability permalloy can also be used in transformers, relays, magnetic shielding enclosures, and precision measurement instruments. However, these applications do not necessarily require 1JL0. Material selection should distinguish between room-temperature and cryogenic requirements.
